Story
(Season 1) - The story is based on year 1991, when arcade video games were very popular. Everybody wants to become a pro gamer. Sixth-grader Haruo Yaguchi wants to become a pro gamer. His aptitude for video games made him popular in local arcades. But his popularity didn't last very long because one day his fellow classmate Akira Oono easily defeats him in Street Fighter 2. She defeats him multiple times. Akira is the top student in their class and she comes from a wealthy family. But Haruo didn't care about Akira's status. Because of her his popularity has gone. So, now he thinks of her as a rival and he dislikes her. Akira is on another level she can't be beaten so easily. Harou's ultimate dream his to defeat her.
(Season 2) - This story is based on year 1996, Haruo is now a second-year high school students. Akira finally returns after five years. A new girl Koharu Hidaka enters in Haruo's life, she don't like video games but when Haruo tells her to play she easily defeats other players. Koharu likes Haruo, but she never told him. Akira has returned so now Haruo can make his dream come true by defeating her. Can he defeat Akira this time?

Ending In Season 1- Akira is moving to other town because her father was transfer to other town. The school holds a farewell for Akira, everybody gives her farewell gifts but Haruo didn't give her anything. When she was on the airport Haruo comes their and gives her a toy ring as a memento and hopes to meet her one day. She hugs him and cries, she don't want to leave him, but she have to.
Ending In Season 2- Akira once again moving but this time she is going abroad for higher studies, before that she returned the ring that Haruo gave her. Haruo thinks that she don't want Haruo to come at the airport but he didn't understand her feeling, because what he was thinking was totally wrong, later his another lover Koharu corrects his thinking, she tells him that Akira wants him to come at the airport. Haruo understands and he ran towards the airport, after avoiding lot's of obstacle he manages to meet Akira, Haruo hugs Akira tightly and confess his love and promise her that one day he will reach out to her and marry her.
Ending (In Manga) - Finished
Ending (From My Perspective) - Obviously I would have gone for a happy ending. In the end Akira and Haruo are together and their friendship has grown more stronger.

Overall My Review - Naturally I try to avoid those anime which has sad ending. I watched this anime only because, it's main focus was on 90's video games. I loved that part. But the same kind of ending in both season pissed me off. It was a average anime for me. If you want to try different kind of anime then you can try it.
